Hot Sauce: The Soundtrack to Hustle & Heart
At 14, while most kids were dreaming about girls or zoning out in class, Hot Sauce was already hearing the beat of the hustle. He knew that the early bird might get the worm, but the early hustler gets the dollar. And so began his journey.
Hot Sauce kicked off his career at KLPL in Lake Providence, LA—where most would be thrilled to simply land a gig as a night jock. But for Hot Sauce, that was just the beginning. By 17, he wasn’t just behind the mic—he was mastering turntables, curating playlists, and getting his hands dirty in everything from programming to production.
The next chapter came when Hot Sauce packed his bags and headed to New Orleans, a city rich in jazz, blues, and history. There, he sharpened his craft for two transformative years before a call came in from Monroe, LA. Hot Sauce took over the airwaves at KRVV, quickly becoming the region’s go-to DJ. His mixtapes were flying off the shelves, and every club and concert venue in town knew they could count on Hot Sauce to bring the heat.
From there, Hot Sauce set his sights on new horizons. His journey took him to Meridian, MS (WJXM), then Dothan, AL where his late-night shows earned him the title of “King of Nights.” But it was his legendary birthday parties, where he threw down at mystery clubs and offered free drinks to all, that really had everyone talking.
A call from Clear Channel sent him to Columbus, GA, where Hot Sauce helped launch WBFA 101.3 The Beat. As the midday jock and music director, his award-winning mix show became the pulse of the station. It was here that Hot Sauce met the Legion of Doom Record Breakers and Core DJs, connections that would further cement his place in radio history.
Always seeking to expand his reach, Hot Sauce then moved to North Carolina, where he took over the night shift at WIKS 101.1. In a short time, he turned the station into a ratings powerhouse, dominating the Arbitron charts across all demos. His unwavering support for local and regional artists made him a beloved figure in the community.
The rhythm of the South called him back, and Hot Sauce returned to Louisiana to spin nights at KMJJ in Shreveport. His Local Artist Spotlight became a staple of the station, introducing fresh sounds to the airwaves and helping launch the careers of local talent. His ratings? Through the roof. His dominance? Unquestionable.
But Hot Sauce couldn’t stay in one place for long. North Carolina was calling, and in no time, he was back on air at WIKS, proving once again that he was irreplaceable. But his journey was far from over.
Next, it was off to Milwaukee, where Hot Sauce took the market by storm, dominating the night shift and adding another major city to his growing list of achievements.
Then, the South called once again. Hot Sauce moved to Alabama, where he brought his signature “Spicin’ Up Your Nights” show to Hot 107.5 and 104.1 The Beat in Montgomery and Birmingham, respectively. His high-energy broadcasts and deep connection with listeners kept his nights sizzling.
After building a reputation that spanned multiple markets, Hot Sauce made his way to Chicago, landing at the iconic WGCI. In the Windy City, he didn’t just join the ranks of radio legends—he helped elevate the station to new heights. His infectious energy and commitment to the craft made him a household name, and his time at WGCI solidified his place in radio’s elite circle.
Not content with just being a personality, Hot Sauce sought to expand his role and landed his first programming job as PD at WYNN in Florence, SC, before moving on to become operations manager for Townsquare Media in San Angelo, TX.
Though the pandemic reshaped the radio landscape, Hot Sauce never missed a beat. He’s currently back on the airwaves, mixing it up and keeping Columbus, GA on its feet with WBFA 98.3 The Beat.
From night jock to program director, from local DJ to market leader, Hot Sauce’s journey is a testament to the power of passion, hustle, and staying true to your roots. And his story? It’s still unfolding.
