Rapper Nas has been forced to sacrifice his earnings from record sales to officials at America’s Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to help pay off his $6 million tax debt.

The I Can hitmaker, real name Nasir Jones, has been struggling to keep up with his tax payments since October 2009, when he was first accused of owing $2.58 million).

His invoices have continued to pile up and last year his IRS debts totalled just over $6.46.

According to TMZ.com, the hip-hop star has allegedly failed to settle the outstanding amount and IRS lawyers recently filed legal papers in a Georgia court requesting to garnish his wages from Broadcast Music International (BMI) and the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) until his huge tax bill has been paid off.
